A horrified wellness influencer at a ring light holds a slice of toast at arm's length with tongs, a phone screen reading TOAST = CORTISOL, a wall sign reading CODE: TOAST15, supplement jars, a red light panel and a cold plunge behind her

The Wellness Influencer

You had toast. That was a cortisol event. She is not a doctor, but she has a protocol, a supplement stack and code TOAST15.

/wowbagger-wellness-influencer I had toast for breakfast

0:58 · audio: a toaster pop slowed down 800% under a choir · @crumbtray.ritual

ON SCREEN: YOUR TOASTER IS A CORTISOL ALARM 🚨

VO (whispering, crouched beside the toaster so it can't hear): If you heard the pop this morning, love, your adrenals heard it first.

That pop is a startle. Your adrenals clock in early, your insulin sees them and panics, and now the two of them are arguing in your bloodstream before eight. [B-roll: glucose monitor on her arm, screen showing a gentle little hill.] Look at that. That's one slice. Browning is when the bread lets go of forever things, and you breathe them in through your eyes. Then the crumbs. Your gut is your second brain, and your second brain lives in a crumb tray nobody has emptied since 2019.

Big Toast doesn't want you to know why the dial goes up to 6. Your GP learned nutrition from the leaflet that came in the box.

Before I knew about the pop, my mornings were beige. My brain was on setting 2. Now my glow is on 6 and nobody can explain it.

THE PROTOCOL

3:44 Awake before the toaster, so it never gets the jump on me. [B-roll: her in the dark kitchen, watching the toaster.]
3:51 Mouth tape off, slowly, so my jaw isn't startled either. [B-roll: tape peeling in slow motion.]
4:06 Lemon water with sea salt, to put my adrenals back on shift. [B-roll: lemon squeezed by a hand with five rings.]
4:20 Barefoot on the kitchen tiles, then the frosted patio, to discharge the pop. [B-roll: toes, frost, a wince.]
4:38 I lie on the floor and toast one slice beside my ear on dial 1, so my nervous system can learn to hear the pop without fear. Twelve rounds. [B-roll: her face next to the slot, eyes shut, flinching every time.]

THE STACK
Magnesium, one scoop, stirred anticlockwise so it doesn't brown. Ashwagandha, for pop recovery. Pop-tuned water: a glass left by the toaster for one full cycle so it learns the frequency. And the swap: sprouted ancestral sourdough, £14 a loaf, toasted in cast iron under red light with tallow from a farm that only sells to people it has spoken to on the phone.

I'm not a doctor, but if you're toast-tired at eleven, that's adrenal fatigue. Do your own research. Listen to your body, it's been trying to tell you about the dial.

[Audio: a toaster pops off camera. She says "oh, that's mine" and carries on.]

Code POP15, link in bio. Comment CRUMB and I'll DM you the dial chart. Screenshot this before Big Toast has it removed.

CAPTION: Your toaster has been setting your hormones for years. 🤍

PINNED: @rye_and_reason: isn't the pop just a spring?
↳ that's what the spring wants you to think 🤍

Out of character: Adrenal fatigue is not a recognised medical diagnosis; a 2016 systematic review found no evidence that it exists. Adrenal insufficiency is real, is diagnosed with blood tests and needs a doctor; being tired at eleven after toast is neither.

wowbagger-wellness-influencer — example 2 of 2
/wowbagger-wellness-influencer I went for a walk

0:58 · audio: a pedestrian-crossing beep slowed to 60 bpm with a heartbeat under it · @soleandsalt.wellness

ON SCREEN: YOU WENT FOR A WALK 🚶‍♀️ AND NOBODY STOPPED YOU

VO: (lying on a yoga mat in the hallway, still in her trainers) Love, I need you to sit down. Actually, don't. Sitting is next week's reel.

Every step you took on pavement sent cortisol up through your heel and into your femur. Concrete has no frequency. Your feet asked the ground for electrons, the ground said no, so your mitochondria took out a loan against your thyroid. Meanwhile your lymph wasn't flowing. It was sloshing. Ask your gut, it was there, it took notes, and it is not speaking to you.

And the air at the crossing? Exhaust, plus whatever they coat the button with. You pressed the button.

[B-roll: crossing button, slow zoom]

Big Pavement doesn't want you to know this. Your doctor told you to "get your steps in." Your doctor trained on pavement.

Before I understood walking, my afternoons had the texture of wet cardboard and my eyes looked like a waiting room. Now I glow hard enough to trip motion-sensor lights.

MY POST-WALK PROTOCOL

3:41: up before the streetlights switch off, so my cortisol sees them leave. [B-roll: silhouette at the window]

3:50: lemon water with sea salt, sipped standing in my walking shoes, so my adrenals know who's in charge. [B-roll: glass on the doormat]

4:05: morning light in the eyes. It's dark, so porch light and intention. [B-roll: soft squint at a bulb]

4:20: I walk yesterday's route backwards, heel first, to give the pavement its cortisol back. [B-roll: bare soles past the bins]

4:45: cold plunge, holding the trainers I walked in, until they apologise. [B-roll: trainers underwater, she nods slowly]

THE STACK 🤍

  • Magnesium, one scoop, facing the direction you walked
  • Ashwagandha, a pinch, rubbed into both ankles
  • Sea moss gel, worked into your laces
  • Moss water, wrung from a verge nobody has ever stepped on

Our ancestors didn't walk on concrete.

I'm not a doctor, but I think you have Pedestrian Thyroid. It won't show up on tests, because the tests were designed by people who drive. Do your own research. Listen to your soles.

Grounding socks, link in bio. £240 a pair, which is cheaper than a lifetime of pavement. Code WALK15. Comment STEPS and I'll DM you the backwards route. Screenshot this before Big Pavement finds it.

[B-roll: me getting out of the car at the end of the walk.]

CAPTION: You didn't go for a walk. The walk went for you. 🤍

@daveruns: isn't walking literally the healthiest thing you can do
@soleandsalt.wellness: on pavement? 🤍

Out of character: Lymph is moved by muscle movement, breathing and the lymph vessels' own contractions, and walking is one of the things that moves it. Nothing about the walk needs undoing.
