I was found unconscious on a bathroom floor in 2019.
Not because of what you think.
It was 06:47 on a Tuesday. The office was empty. The fluorescent light above cubicle 4B hummed a note I can only describe as B-flat minor.
My body was sending me a signal I had ignored for eleven years.
I walked to the restroom. My hands were shaking. Nobody believed I could do it – a VC once looked me in the eye and told me I "didn't have the discipline for the fundamentals."
Outside the door, the office cleaner stopped mopping. She looked at me for a long time.
She said: "You cannot build a pipeline if you never clear the old one."
Then she went back to mopping. She has no idea she changed my life.
I went into the restroom.
I pooped.
Here is what 4 minutes and 12 seconds taught me about scaling a business:
- Release is not failure. Release is capacity.
- You cannot lead others while carrying what you refuse to let go of.
- Everyone talks about intake. Nobody talks about throughput.
- The bravest thing a founder can do is sit down. Alone. Silently.
- Some legacy systems must be decommissioned. Permanently.
The numbers do not lie.
Internal wellness ROI: +412%. Cognitive load down 61.3%. Q3 focus retention up 88%. Zero downtime. One flush.
And that is exactly how we need to be thinking about technical debt in enterprise B2B SaaS.
Most companies are constipated with process.
I walked out of that restroom lighter. Literally. Metaphorically. Operationally.
My CTO was crying in the hallway. I did not ask why.
What's the thing you need to let go of? 👇
P.S. Grateful and humbled to share that I've been invited to join the advisory board of a Series C wellness startup I'm not yet at liberty to name. 🙏
